Preserve a Piece of Space Shuttle History
These limited-edition PlaneTags are crafted from an authentic Solid Rocket Booster Hold-Down Post, a critical component that secured each booster to the Mobile Launcher Platform during countdown. At liftoff, the hold-down post helped restrain the booster until explosive bolts released it, allowing the Space Shuttle to begin its journey into space.
Each PlaneTag is precision water jet cut into the classic PlaneTags profile and includes a display card telling the story of this remarkable piece of launch hardware.

OUR PLANE'S STORY
For more than 30 years, the Space Shuttle relied on twin Solid Rocket Boosters to provide the thrust needed to lift astronauts, satellites, scientific payloads, and components of the International Space Station into orbit.
While the boosters supplied the power, the Hold-Down Post played a critical role before every launch. Mounted to the Mobile Launcher Platform, it secured each booster in place throughout the countdown. At ignition, explosive nuts released the connection, allowing the Shuttle stack to rise from the launch pad and begin its mission.
Earlier this year, MotoArt had the opportunity to help the California Science Center prepare Aft Skirt Serial Number 13 for its permanent display as part of the Solid Rocket Booster Walk-Through Experience in the future Kent Kresa Space Gallery. During that work, material from the hold-down post was carefully preserved and transformed into this limited PlaneTags collection.
