The test pilot’s Talon.
These PlaneTags are made from NASA AT-38B Talon N864NA, an aircraft that supported research missions and pilot proficiency at the highest levels of flight.
From advanced military training to NASA flight operations, this aircraft was built to push boundaries.

OUR PLANE'S STORY
The Northrop AT-38B Talon
Developed by Northrop Corporation, the T-38 Talon was the world’s first supersonic trainer. Since its introduction in the 1960s, it has prepared generations of pilots for high-performance aircraft and continues to serve with NASA today.
Fast, lightweight, and highly responsive, the T-38 remains a critical platform for building precision, discipline, and real-world flight experience.
N864NA – From Weapons Training to NASA Research
Built for the U.S. Air Force as a T-38A, this aircraft was later converted into the AT-38B configuration for advanced weapons and tactical training. That role required a higher level of pilot skill, preparing crews for complex, high-performance missions.
After its military service, the aircraft was transferred to NASA and operated at the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center. At Armstrong, N864NA supported research operations and pilot proficiency, helping restore T-38 operations after a decade-long absence. It was flown by NASA test pilots, including Kelly Latimer, representing the next generation of aerospace research.
In 2013, the aircraft completed its final journey aboard the Aero Spacelines Super Guppy, marking the end of its operational life. This was a jet designed to explore the limits off light.

Product Features
Each PlaneTag is made from authentic aircraft skin sourced from N864NA.
After retirement, sections of the aircraft were carefully preserved and transformed through MotoArt’s process. The material is cut, finished, and individually stamped, ensuring every tag is unique. Each piece carries the marks of its time in service.
- Made from authentic NASA AT-38B Talon aircraft skin (N864NA)
- Unique serial number on each tag
- Lightweight and durable aluminum
- Limited edition
- Made in the USA
The Other Talon
N864NA represents the test pilot’s side of NASA flight. Its counterpart, N910NA, a NASA T-38N, played a different role, supporting astronaut training and spaceflight operations out of Houston. Together, these two aircraft tell the complete story of the T-38 at NASA.

PlaneTags are:
- Authentic - made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal.
- Unique - each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
- Collectible - each one is numbered in a limited edition and comes attached to a display card.
- Versatile - comes with a durable metal ring, strong enough to attach to luggage or keys or display.

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
