Dassault Falcon 2000 N250DL: A Business Jet with a Casamigos Connection

    • Oct 06, 2026
    • by Dianna Lopez

Some aircraft are remembered for the missions they flew. Others for the airlines, squadrons, or people they carried. N250DL, a Dassault Falcon 2000, has a different kind of story.

Built in 2001, this business jet spent its career in executive transportation, traveling in a world of private aviation that eventually connected it with Discovery Land Company and Casamigos, the tequila brand founded by George Clooney, Rande Gerber, and Mike Meldman.

For years, N250DL even wore the Casamigos name on its fuselage. Now, after more than two decades of flying, pieces of this distinctive Falcon 2000 have been preserved as PlaneTags.

    The Falcon 2000

The story begins with Dassault Aviation and a new approach to the business jet. Developed from the three-engine Falcon 900, the Falcon 2000 retained the wide cabin and much of the design heritage of its predecessor while using two engines. Dassault announced the program, originally known as the Falcon X, in 1989, and the prototype took its first flight from Bordeaux-Mérignac on March 4, 1993.

The Falcon 2000 entered service in 1995 and went on to become one of Dassault's most successful business jet families. More than 700 Falcon 2000 aircraft have been produced, accumulating millions of flight hours around the world.

That combination of range, efficiency and a spacious cabin made the Falcon equally at home carrying corporate executives across the country or crossing borders for destinations farther afield. And in 2001, Falcon 2000 serial number 138 joined the fleet.

    Designed for a New Generation

The Falcon 2000 represented more than a new twin-engine addition to the Dassault family. It also reflected a changing approach to aircraft design. The Falcon 2000 became Dassault's first business jet developed entirely through three-dimensional computer-aided design, using CATIA technology rather than relying on a traditional full-scale physical development model. The digital process allowed engineers to design components together with greater precision before the aircraft ever took shape on the production line.

Weight reduction was another focus. Alongside its primarily aluminum structure, Dassault incorporated advanced composite materials in selected areas. Later improvements included a redesigned horizontal tail using carbon-fiber skin panels and composite spars, technology that was standard by the time N250DL was built in 2001.

The result was an aircraft that combined the wide cabin and design heritage of the three-engine Falcon 900 with the efficiency of two engines, helping establish a Falcon family that would continue evolving for decades.

    Advanced for Its Time

N250DL's technology story continued inside the cockpit. The 2001 Falcon 2000 was equipped with a Collins Pro Line 4 electronic flight deck and a Flight Dynamics HGS-2850 Head-Up Display, allowing the pilot to view important flight-guidance information while looking forward through the windshield.

Its avionics suite also included four electronic flight displays, dual flight management systems, inertial navigation, weather radar, traffic collision avoidance, enhanced ground-proximity warning, and dual autopilot and flight-director systems. Together, they gave the Falcon 2000 a sophisticated cockpit for long-range business aviation at the beginning of the 21st century.

    Meet N250DL

Photo by Tom Morris, used with permission

Falcon 2000 s/n 138 was built in 2001 and would spend more than two decades flying as N250DL. Configured with an eight-passenger double-club cabin, satellite communications, Wi-Fi, and a head-up display, it was well equipped for the world of executive travel.

And it certainly traveled. By the time N250DL was offered for sale later in its career, it had accumulated more than 7,400 flight hours and 4,100 landings.

But it was what appeared on the outside of N250DL that made this particular Falcon especially recognizable.

Discovery Land, Los Cabos and Casamigos

One of the most interesting chapters in N250DL's story connects two familiar names: Discovery Land Company and Casamigos.

    Dassault Falcon 2000

Discovery Land Company was founded by Mike Meldman in 1994, developing private residential communities and resorts around the world. Among them was El Dorado Golf & Beach Club in Los Cabos, Mexico, where George Clooney and Rande Gerber had homes.

It was in Los Cabos that Clooney and Gerber began working on a tequila they could enjoy with friends. Meldman eventually joined them, and in 2013, the three launched Casamigos. What began as a personal project grew rapidly, eventually becoming one of the world's most recognizable tequila brands.

N250DL became part of that shared story. The Falcon carried Discovery Land Company branding on its tail and the Casamigos name and agave logo along its fuselage, markings that were still visible when the aircraft reached the end of its flying career.

    Falcon 2000 PlaneTags

Those markings give us a tangible connection to a distinctive chapter in N250DL's more than two decades of flight, and fortunately, they weren't all lost when the Falcon was retired.

    A Brand Takes Off

    Casamigos PlaneTags

Casamigos grew quickly. Just four years after its commercial launch, Diageo announced its acquisition of the company in June 2017 in a deal valued at up to $1 billion, including $700 million upfront and up to $300 million based on the brand's future performance. By then, Casamigos had grown far beyond its beginnings in Los Cabos, while its name remained prominently displayed across the fuselage of N250DL.

For the Falcon, it was one chapter in more than two decades of flying. For Casamigos, it was the transformation of a project among friends into a globally recognized brand.

    One Last Destination

Eventually, N250DL's flying days came to an end. Its final chapter brought it to Santos Aircraft in New Castle, Delaware, where an opportunity emerged to give parts of the Falcon a new life. Santos Aircraft provided the aircraft to PlaneTags, opening the door for MotoArt to preserve N250DL in a very different form.

A Little More of N250DL Is Coming to TagFest

There was one piece we couldn't turn into PlaneTags. The Casamigos sign from N250DL was preserved, too. Rather than cutting it up, we kept this large section of original aircraft skin intact, preserving the Casamigos name and agave logo together. It will be offered at the TagFest 2026 auction at MotoArt Studios on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

For one collector, it will be an opportunity to take home a much larger piece of this Falcon's story, complete with one of the markings that made N250DL instantly recognizable during this chapter of its life.

    Dassault Falcon 2000 PlaneTags

From Dassault's innovative business jet program to executive travel, Discovery Land, Casamigos and ultimately MotoArt, N250DL has traveled an unusual road to becoming a PlaneTag.

    Dassault Falcon 2000 PlaneTags engraving

This limited edition includes 5,000 PlaneTags crafted from genuine material from Falcon 2000 N250DL.

Some of the material used for this release is an exceptionally thin and lightweight honeycomb composite, reflecting the advanced materials used throughout the Falcon. These pieces have a noticeably different feel from traditional aluminum PlaneTags, with a lightweight construction that preserves the original aircraft material.

Because of the honeycomb structure, these composite PlaneTags could not be engraved on the reverse, so their aircraft information and edition numbering appear on the front.

Other pieces from N250DL were made from material without the honeycomb core. As shown, those pieces allowed us to engrave the reverse with details including the aircraft type, tail number, construction number, engines, and years of service.

Dassault Falcon 2000 PlaneTags, made from N250DL, go on sale Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 12 PM PT.

    Explore More Business Aviation

The Falcon 2000 is just one chapter in the evolution of business aviation. Explore three more PlaneTags with connections to the world of private and executive aircraft.

    Gulfstream I N193PA
Go back to an earlier era of executive travel with the Grumman G-159 Gulfstream I. N193PA has an especially interesting story of its own: material from the aircraft helped support the restoration of Walt Disney's original Gulfstream I at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

    Learjet 24A N805NA
The Learjet helped define the image of the modern business jet, but N805NA followed a very different path. Instead of a traditional executive career, this Learjet served NASA as an airborne observatory and flight research aircraft.

    CRJ-200ER N847AS
The CRJ-200 may be remembered as a regional airliner, but its family tree leads directly back to business aviation. Developed from the Canadair Challenger business jet, the CRJ took that basic design in a new direction and helped transform regional airline travel.

From Gulfstream to Learjet, Challenger to Falcon, these aircraft show just how many directions business jet design has taken over the decades.

From the Racing Line: Preserving Reno’s Outer #4 Pylon

For MotoArt, the Reno National Championship Air Races go back a long way.

More than two decades after our first trips to Reno, that connection led to an unusual new preservation project. Following the final National Championship Air Races in Reno, MotoArt was contacted about some of the material left from the historic racecourse: the pylons themselves.
