For years there were rumors of a ghost F-14, one that had been written off by the U.S. government years ago. Locating this F-14 became MotoArt owner Dave Hall’s ultimate goal. Presenting the F-14A Tomcat PlaneTags.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a carrier-based, supersonic fighter designed for fleet air defense, ground attack, and reconnaissance. They served with the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 2006 and were pivotal to the nation’s defense. Only 712 were built and 79 of them were bought by Iran before their 1979 revolution. In the years that followed, surplus F-14 parts were being sold to Iran, who had since become our adversary. The “Stop Arming Iran Act” made the chances of finding an F-14 very slim.
Earlier this year, Hall’s quest to locate the rumored F-14 was fulfilled when a colleague invited him to check out some old planes he had in storage. As he showed Hall his collection of cockpits - a few of which were used in films and television - one tucked away in the very back caught Hall’s eye. Could this be the F-14 that had eluded him for years?
After weeks of researching the plane’s history, the team confirmed that Hall had in fact located the elusive F-14. The research revealed that BuNo 159611 had been delivered to the U.S. Navy on September 7,1975, served most of its career with the Navy’s Pacific Fleet Replacement Squadron and acted as VF-24’s Commanding Officer Richard Vance’s F-14 before being struck off charge April 30,1994 at Point Mugu. Although retired from the Navy, BuNo 159611 found another calling in Hollywood. It was used in Surface to Air (1998), JAG (1995–2005), and most recently used by Paramount Pictures for the filming of Top Gun: Maverick. Read the full story on our PlaneTags blog.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

Easy to order and arrived quickly, my husband loved them. We will be shopping from here again in the future.
The Tomcat planetags are good, but the most what I want to have is an F117 tag. Hahahaha
Ich bin total begeistert. Es ist ein tolles Gefühl ein Stück einer echten Tomcat zu besitzen. Danke Planetags. Ihr glaubt gar nicht, was ihr mir für eine riesen Freude gemacht habt.
The F-14 tags were a childhood dream come true. Not only does this piece of history bring a smile to my face daily but the staff and professionalism of the company is second to none. Well done.
A very interesting piece of aviation history and a quite good product to have. Just a slight comment as the mesh on the flip side may snug on clothes/fabric, causing additional tear. Some attention needed.
The laser engraving looks really nice. I received mine half way across the world (Eastern Europe) without issues. Great product!
Very cool idea. My wife dated a 707 pilot with Southern Air so she received the 707 skin.
Have not used it yet due to unresolved issue on delivery and no replies from the customer service team in the past few weeks.
Purchased an Exterior Skin F-14 tag and it’s every bit as amazing as it’s made out to be! This airplane made me want to be a pilot, so thrilled and proud to own a piece of this incredible aircraft. Truly Sierra Hotel (Sh*t Hot)!
I've brought two Skin Tags from here, the BA B767 and the F-14A Tomcat and I've never had any problems with my purchase and even when delays with the postal service was happening, Plane Tags was on had to investigate and I recommend anyone who wants to own a part of unique history should consider here. I'm one happy Pilot, thanks Skintags.
As a veteran of F-14 Naval Aviation, this is a fantastic keepsake which brings back so many memories! The history of this buno makes this tag even better!
This tag is amazing. MotoArt has done it again. Everything about this tag is perfect. My favorite part is that I not only get to own a piece of this amazing aircraft but also own a piece of an aircraft used on the set of Top Gun: Maverick. This made it well worth the purchase. Thank you MotoArt!
This tag is beautiful. MotoArt has done it again! The coolest part about this tag is the F-14 it comes from was used on the set of Top Gun: Maverick. It's very cool to own a piece of history let alone part of a plane used in a movie! Thank you MotoArt!!
