For years there were rumors of a ghost F-14, one that had been written off by the U.S. government years ago. Locating this F-14 became MotoArt owner Dave Hall’s ultimate goal. Presenting the F-14A Tomcat PlaneTags.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a carrier-based, supersonic fighter designed for fleet air defense, ground attack, and reconnaissance. They served with the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 2006 and were pivotal to the nation’s defense. Only 712 were built and 79 of them were bought by Iran before their 1979 revolution. In the years that followed, surplus F-14 parts were being sold to Iran, who had since become our adversary. The “Stop Arming Iran Act” made the chances of finding an F-14 very slim.
Earlier this year, Hall’s quest to locate the rumored F-14 was fulfilled when a colleague invited him to check out some old planes he had in storage. As he showed Hall his collection of cockpits - a few of which were used in films and television - one tucked away in the very back caught Hall’s eye. Could this be the F-14 that had eluded him for years?
After weeks of researching the plane’s history, the team confirmed that Hall had in fact located the elusive F-14. The research revealed that BuNo 159611 had been delivered to the U.S. Navy on September 7,1975, served most of its career with the Navy’s Pacific Fleet Replacement Squadron and acted as VF-24’s Commanding Officer Richard Vance’s F-14 before being struck off charge April 30,1994 at Point Mugu. Although retired from the Navy, BuNo 159611 found another calling in Hollywood. It was used in Surface to Air (1998), JAG (1995–2005), and most recently used by Paramount Pictures for the filming of Top Gun: Maverick. Read the full story on our PlaneTags blog.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

I love the plane tags! The F-14 tag is awesome. The only complaint is that it takes 3-4 weeks to receive your tag. Just wish shipping was much faster.
Easy to order and awesome selections. Unique piece for my collection!!
Love it. I have the Connie and the P-2 Neptune tags. Looking for a Coast Guard Tag !! (Never gonna happen) LOL
When can you ever say you own a piece of Top gun history? I love the honeycomb variants off of this release.
I admit this tag was a little overhyped. The tag itself is solid with standard grey and a honeycomb backing. The box was a nice surprise
What military tag collection would be complete without an F14? Opted for the basic exterior gray over the honeycomb back. It came nicely packaged in a special box.
These tags are incredible. The tomcat is one of the most classic Navy fighters in history, I am incredibly lucky to own a piece of one especially one that has such a cool history with what it was used for!
I love Top Gun, and it so cool to have a piece of something used in it. I am now completely broke. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
Really love the backside of the tag with the metal honeycomb. Thank you motoart team for shipping it in a special f-14 designed box
Absolutely love love love this release. So many awesome variations and such a rich history in the aircraft. Love Topgun and am thrilled to have a piece of it!
HOW WAS YOUR OVERALL EXPERIENCE? F-14A TOMCAT #4,195 of 5,000 BuNo159611 Well, to be honest my wallet was hurt, a bit. I got the green the tag, and it's very thin, almost paper thin. For what I got on metal, and what I paid for it, feels like I got some sort precious/rare metal from out of space. And that's exactly what I got. There are not that many F-14 airframes around, this tag is a rare catch/opportunity. With this tag you can talk aviation, movies and Beauty. You can play/do touch and goes or get serious and grab that Zero/Japanese tag for an aerial encounter, like on the movie The Final Count Down.
I'm very happy with it, the honeycomb on the back is great.! Cutting it looks like a lot of work.! Thank you for providing the product!
Words couldnt describe my excitement as I opened up my mail to see one of my very first planetags! This tag is amazing in person, and the story behind it is even better!
One of my favourite planes and thank you MA for this stunning release. Got the Exterior!
On top of having this one in in interior green, I have an exterior pet tag that gets used daily by my AIM-54C Named tripod cat Phoenix. We both love our tags and will continue to enjoy them for years to come
Been in a military family since birth and having a father that brought me on base all the time to meet aircraft face to face has been incredible. From sitting in f-18's to taking home my own uh1y door and hanging it in my room. I always wanted to see an f-14 but was born to late, still I love it and this piece was my first and my most loved

Love this airplane and its maneuverability. When we saw this tag we had to have it in the exterior gray. Beautiful!
Everyone knows the movie, and everyone knows its sequel so now's the chance to own a piece of it.
Being introduced to the F-14, via the feature film Top Gun, the Tomcat has been a longtime childhood favorite of mine. To own a piece of aviation history that was also featured in Top Gun Maverick is a joy. MotoArt did a phenomenal job with quality, attention to detail, and a stellar deep engraving on the Exterior Grey variant that is mind-blowing. It is easily one of the coolest tags I own and worth checking out!
