Once embroiled in a dramatic hijacking incident, CU-T1294 landed in Key West Florida, never to return to Cuba. Rising from its past, this Cubana Antonov AN-24RV became an instrument for first responder training, before becoming PlaneTags.

Read more about it on the PlaneTags aviation history blog.

CU-T1294, a Soviet-made AN-24RV operated by Cubana de Aviación, became infamous when it was hijacked on March 31, 2003 during a flight from Cuba's Isla de la Juventud to Havana. A hijacker, armed and demanding passage to the United States, forced the aircraft to land in Key West, Florida. It remained at Key West International Airport for over 20 years, and was used for police and firefighting training before falling into ruins.

The Antonov An-24, a twin-engine turboprop aircraft known for its ruggedness and versatility, served short to medium haul routes for Cubana de Aviación during turbulent political times. Preserving this window to the past in 2024, the history of CU-T1294 will be treasured and shared for decades to come.

Don't miss out on owning a piece of aviation history! Secure your Cubana de Aviación AN-24 PlaneTags crafted from the skin of CU-T1294 today.

PlaneTags are Handmade Aviation Tags

  • Authentic - made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal.
  • Unique -  each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
  • Collectible - each one is numbered in a limited edition and comes attached to a display card.
  • Versatile - comes with a durable metal ring, strong enough to attach to luggage or keys or display.

- Please Note: Due to limited quantities, combination colors you may receive will vary.

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

La Gloria Cubana + Cubana Airlines!

My favorite cigar is a La Gloria Cubana (I will save the tales of bringing actual Cuban ones home from the Dom Rep for another day ;) so when PlaneTags released this Antonov AN-24 it was a no-brainer for me! Though unable to get the Combo Package, I did manage to sneak away with the Solid Package, a Rojo Quemado, and an Azul/Blanco Combo. Absolutely love these! And the accompanying history makes them that much better! Fantastic release!

    A Fantastic tag!

I chose the faded red tag, & what an amazing tag! It's gorgeous, and I love everything about this tag- the front, the back, the faded color, the dramatic history, plus it's an actual Soviet-made Cubana de Aviación plane! Definitely a keeper, imho.
