Lockheed SR-71™ Blackbird Tail #17967 PlaneTag

Product Type

SR 71 Blackbird

The SR-71™ Blackbird, designed by Lockheed’s famed Skunk Works development team, was a long-range, strategic reconnaissance aircraft used by the United States Air Force from 1964 through the 1980s. Its radically innovative design and capabilities made this plane a vital part of intelligence gathering for decades, helping the United States craft its foreign policy at a crucial time in history. It remains to this day the fastest manned, air-breathing aircraft ever built. We are thrilled and honored to offer an exclusive, limited edition SR-71™ PlaneTag made from the original stabilizer of Tail #17967.

What is SR-71 PlaneTag Made Of?

Each PlaneTag™ has been cut from the interior or exterior composite honeycomb sandwich skin panels from the stabilizer, then polished and etched with the plane information and its number from the limited edition run. No two tags will be exactly alike, making this a truly unique aviation keepsake.

What is the difference between the interior and exterior SR-71 PlaneTags?

The exterior PlaneTags were cut from the exterior composite skin panel of the stabilizer. They vary in thickness depending on which part of the stabilizer they were cut – with some thicker than others. Due to the variances there is no way to choose which exterior PlaneTag thickness you will receive. The interior PlaneTags are cut from the inside part of the honeycomb sandwich skin and are thinner than most of the exterior product.

Handmade Aviation Collectible

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will have a limited option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

    Amazing keepsake....

I would love to have this keepsake....my father, Lenard Mead, was the test engineer for Lockheed at Edwards AFB in 1965. He touched all of the SR-71s that flew and made sure everything worked.
