Lockheed SR-71™ Blackbird Tail #17967 PlaneTag

SR 71 Blackbird

The SR-71™ Blackbird, designed by Lockheed’s famed Skunk Works development team, was a long-range, strategic reconnaissance aircraft used by the United States Air Force from 1964 through the 1980s. Its radically innovative design and capabilities made this plane a vital part of intelligence gathering for decades, helping the United States craft its foreign policy at a crucial time in history. It remains to this day the fastest manned, air-breathing aircraft ever built. We are thrilled and honored to offer an exclusive, limited edition SR-71™ PlaneTag made from the original stabilizer of Tail #17967.

What is SR-71 PlaneTags Made Of?

Each PlaneTag® has been cut from the interior or exterior composite honeycomb sandwich skin panels from the stabilizer, then polished and etched with the plane information and its number from the limited edition run. No two tags will be exactly alike, making this a truly unique aviation keepsake.

Handmade Aviation Collectible

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will have a limited option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

All the tags have been delivered, finally. Covid19 restrictions have made me wait long.

SR71 great even if the Tag has imperfections and the laser engraving isn't very clear I am very happy I have it; unless you have access to NASA's spare parts hangar this tag series should be the only one ever made. And we all know what the SR71 and CIA's A12 achieved. Absolutely amazing. B52: perfect piece. The lack of a tail number or a serial means the tags are made by parts from several planes, I think. Titan II: the tag has a scratch but it clearly preexisted the engraving and skins cannot be perfect, I am happy. B1B: the Item is well made, and you know this aircraft was the first one sent in service. P40: the tag shows the signs of time, aging, some corrosion, is not made with the skin of the mentioned serial, but has a well deserved place in my tiny collection. I have purchased other tags, i am satisfied with all of them. Thank you.

    SR-71 Tag

I don't know. I have not received the package and I cannot get any help from USPS. The tracking facility shows it landed in South Africa on 28 Feb. It is now 16 March and nothing further has been updated - I do not know where my package is. According to USPS, for a order from the US to an international address, the sender (yourselves) need to initiate a query with USPS. Please help in this regard. Thanks

Glad to have it, won’t buy from them again

Email with the company was less than professional. The first time the SR -71 tag was to go live, it didn’t. They company failed on many fronts despite the repeated questions on social media to address the delay. As the launch was scheduled near Christmas, that left a lot of people upset & w/o answers. I chose not to purchase when it was released based on extremely poor customer service. However, when they didn’t sell out as they expected and offered them on a second run I chose to own a unique item if aviation hx. Going forward, I will not support PlaneTags & Motoart.

    A piece of history!

My dad was the wing commander of the 9th Reconnaissance wing in the early 80's which was the home for the SR-71 in northern California. So when I saw this plane tag, I knew I had to have one! It's likely I may have even watched this plane in action when I lived there. Amazing to own a piece of such a legendary aircraft.

Moto art is the best with cool Items

I have bought many items from Moto Art since you opened and have flown out and visited. I have purchased 4 SR-71 tags the first set and now the second set . Keep up the great work. Also the B-36 tag was great. My late father was AC commander B36 Loring AFB.

    It isn't every day...

It isn't every day that you get the chance to get an object from a super-secret high-speed aircraft. Planetags did just that by salvaging a piece of an SR-71 "Blackbird." The fastest military aircraft ever produced and flown. I use the tag on my carry-on and several times fellow travelers have asked how I came to have that item. So it is a fun conversation piece. Planetags made a great product. Also, Planetags was easy to work with by providing fast service and shipping. Five Stars.

    Piece of art

I actually don’t use this as a keychain. I’m sure it’s durable but I just prefer keeping it in my office on a mantle shelf as a little piece of art and admire it all the time. When I first got it, I was impressed how thick it is. I know they all vary in size but this is about 1/4” thick! And to think this little piece has practically been to space! So lightweight - So beautiful - So unique. Thrilled to have a rare piece of history like this that I can enjoy, admire and wonder about.

Great to have a piece of history that had such a vital role in the Cold War. The piece I have in my hand has been three times the speed of sound and damn near in outer space. Anyone who loves aviation will love to have this plane tag

should be five stars, but, bad shipping options for overseas customers wouldn't mind to pay a few dollars more for faster courier service
