From Cold War interceptor to collector’s treasure, introducing the F-86L Sabre PlaneTag, created from aircraft 52-4139, a former U.S. Air Force jet that served during one of the tensest periods in modern history. This high-altitude, radar-guided fighter was part of the first generation of automated air defense, integrated into the revolutionary SAGE system.
Discovered in Georgia and preserved by MotoArt, this aircraft’s original skin has been hand-cut, laser-engraved, and turned into a one-of-a-kind piece of aviation history. Each PlaneTag carries the legacy of the jet age and the silent defense it once provided.
OUR PLANE'S STORY
Accepted into service on July 29, 1954, aircraft 52-4139 began its career as an F-86D Sabre Dog before being upgraded under Project Pullout to become a fully integrated F-86L Sabre, equipped to work with the SAGE (Semi-Automatic Ground Environment) system. It served at key air defense bases including:
- O’Hare AFB, IL
- Fresno Air Terminal, CA
- Portsmouth AFB, NH
- McClellan AFB, CA
- Lincoln AFB, NE (with the Nebraska Air National Guard)
In 1964, the aircraft was transferred to Davis-Monthan AFB for storage, marking the end of its service. In 2024, MotoArt recovered and preserved its skin, giving this Cold War defender a second life as collectible art. PlaneTags are:
- Authentic - made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal.
- Unique - each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
- Collectible - each one is numbered in a limited edition and comes attached to a display card.
- Versatile - comes with a durable metal ring, strong enough to attach to luggage or keys or display.
*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
