OUR PLANE'S STORY
On June 2, 2020, Delta’s tireless Mad Dog departed on its final scheduled revenue flight. DL88 took off from IAD at 8:41 a.m. and landed in ATL at 9:56 a.m., marking the end of 33 years of service for the MD-88s. Between 1987 and 2020, Delta operated a total of 120 MD-88s. MotoArt is honored to celebrate the legacy of this workhorse, and welcome the famed Mad Dog into the PlaneTags Encyclopedia of Aviation History.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-88 is a twin-engine, single-aisle airliner derived from the DC-9-55. It featured an Electronic Flight Information System (EFIS) instead of the traditional analog cockpit. Delta Air Lines was the largest operator of the MD-88 and used it for short to medium routes across its domestic network. N982DL joined the Delta fleet June 22, 1991 and flew exclusively with Delta until being retired and stored June 30, 2019 at Arkansas International Airport, Blytheville, Arkansas. - Unique - each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
- Collectible - each one is numbered in a limited edition and comes attached to a display card.
- Versatile - comes with a durable metal ring, strong enough to attach to luggage or keys or display.
- Please Note: Due to limited quantities, combination colors you may receive will vary.

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag.
