When Every Minute Mattered.
Few helicopters are as legendary as the Bell UH-1 Iroquois, better known as the Huey. For the crews who answered the call of DUSTOFF, these helicopters were more than aircraft. They were lifelines.
Originally built as a UH-1H, 71-20177 was later converted to the UH-1V configuration for dedicated aeromedical evacuation duties. After its military career, the helicopter was retired to Victorville, California, where MotoArt recovered its original material in 2026.
Now, that material lives on as individually numbered PlaneTags, honoring the legendary Huey and the courageous crews who dedicated themselves to bringing the wounded home.
Own a piece of the DUSTOFF legacy.

OUR PLANE'S STORY
The Bell UH-1 Iroquois earned its place in aviation history as one of the most recognizable and versatile military helicopters ever built. Nicknamed the "Huey," it became synonymous with U.S. Army aviation, transporting troops, delivering supplies, and evacuating wounded personnel from the battlefield.
For DUSTOFF crews, the Huey served a particularly important purpose. These dedicated medical evacuation teams flew into dangerous conditions to retrieve the wounded, often operating unarmed helicopters marked with red crosses. Their mission demanded extraordinary courage, skill, and speed when every minute mattered.
Bell UH-1V, 71-20177, was originally manufactured as a UH-1H-BF Iroquois, construction number 13001. It was later converted to the UH-1V aeromedical evacuation configuration, a specialized version of the Huey equipped with improved avionics and medical rescue capabilities.
The UH-1V continued the Huey's lifesaving legacy beyond the Vietnam era, serving with Army and National Guard medical evacuation units as newer helicopters gradually entered service.
Following its military career, 71-20177 was retired and stored at Victorville, California. In 2020, the MotoArt team traveled to Victorville to retrieve material from the helicopter, bringing it back to the workshop in Torrance to be transformed into PlaneTags.
Each individually numbered PlaneTag is crafted from authentic aircraft material, preserving a tangible connection to 71-20177 and honoring the generations of DUSTOFF crews who answered the call. Read more: DUSTOFF: When Every Minute Mattered

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag.
