WWII aircraft are the favorites of so many PlaneTags collectors and it's no wonder why. The will, ingenuity and resources were at an all time high when these birds were produced. The SB2C-5 Helldiver shares this moment in history and MotoArt is thrilled to have BuNo 83393 as part of our collection. Introducing Curtiss SB2C-5 PlaneTags!

Learn all about the Helldiver on our blog SB2C Helldiver: The Navy's Last Dive Bomber

The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was a two seater, single engine, carrier-based dive bomber and scout plane, produced between 1943 and 1945, and utilized by the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater. It was Nicknamed The Beast, The Big-Tailed Beast and Two Cee, the Helldiver was also called S.O.B. 2nd Class - a play on the initials SB2C and referring to the Helldiver’s challenging handling characteristics. The SB2C was the last of Navy’s dive bombers, due to the changing nature of modern warfare and the expanding aviation technology.

Our plane, BuNo 83393, was built as an SB2C-5 and delivered to the U.S. Navy in May 1945. It was used as a torpedo test aircraft in Newport, RI and as a test aircraft at NAS Dahlgren, VA. On July 24, 1945, it was lost in a takeoff from USPNG Dahlgren, VA when it stalled during a forced landing. The wreck of 83393 was recovered by the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) in 1993 and was used for spare parts to restore NASM’s Helldiver (BuNo 83479). Ron J. Fagen, founder of Fagen Fighters WWII Museum in Granite Falls, MN, acquired the wreck of 83393 in 2006 and has been restoring it ever since. Once completely restored, it will be the second Helldiver in flying condition. MotoArt acquired the original skin of 83393 from Fagen Fighters in 2022 and created PlaneTags.

PlaneTags are:

      • Authentic - made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal.
      • Unique -  each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
      • Collectible - each one is numbered in a limited edition and comes attached to a display card.
      • Versatile - comes with a durable metal ring, strong enough to attach to luggage or keys or display.

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. **** yeah for a Helldiver

As an avid WWII history buff, I wanted to snap one of these planetags up as quickly as possible! This beautiful aircraft is a one of a kind, and now I am lucky enough to have a part of this incredible aircraft in my collection.

Makes for one unique book mark.

I can't bring myself to use it as a keychain, but it comes in handy as a pretty fancy bookmark. The rivets add a lot of character to it too. I'm very happy with it.

    Helldiver tags wrong color

I've ordered numerous tags in the past and have always been quite pleased until I received my Helldiver tags which were ordered as blue, but what I received were green/gray tags. When I emailed about this issue I wasn't curtly directed to the pictures on the website and told what I got were blue tags. Trust me they're not blue. I emailed again a couple of weeks later asking if I could swap these out for blue tags and/or return at least one of them and was told nope, blue ones are out of stock and if you want to return anything they'd need to receive it within three days or I'd be beyond the 30 day return policy limit and the's ship them back to me. Bam - take that customer!!! It's a shame that a company with such cool products acts in such a heavy handed manner and treats customers so poorly. Frankly the communication I had with this "customer service" person was about as bad as I've experienced from any company.

    SB2C Helldiver

I bought the Helldiver Planetag for my wife as her Dad trained Navy in Helldivers for WWII. As there were not many Helldivers produced (compared to P-51’s for instance) having a piece of a rare Helldiver is very special and has great sentimental value. I checked his Logbook and he never flew the specific Planetag source aircraft, but it was worth looking. Her Dad would have gotten a kick out of it!

    SB2C-5 Helldiver Planetag

I was thrilled to have an SB2C-5 Helldiver Planetag. SB2C & A-24's are presently among the more rare of World War II aircraft, which makes this very special. I only wish that my friend from church who flew SB2C's off the USS Randolph in 1945 were still with us to see it. The tag arrived in good condition, and the shipping was very prompt.

    An aviation history keepsake...

I purchase and collect those large airplanes in which I'm type rated. Once in a while I'll venture out into something I haven't flown, but may have flown with at some both the airshow. This is one of those. I would like to see Plane Tags for the G-TBM (Avenger) and CL-215 and CL-415 water bombers to complete my type rated airplane collection of plane tags.

    A piece of the Legend

My A-10 Planetag arrived very quickly after I placed my order. The tag itself is excellent. The tag has a good weight to it and the engraving on the green paint down to the metal underneath is clear and has no smudges of any kind. The card the tag is attached to is of a durable plastic with some interest info and amazing graphics on it. It's perfect for display alongside my Helldiver Planetag. You guys have blown me away with this one. Can't wait to see what's coming next!

    Helldiver tag

So I wanted a blue paint Helldiver tag, but I was slow to order and got a green one instead, but, who cares? I’m one of the lucky very few who is privileged to fly the last remaining airworthy CAF Helldiver… this tag is just a cool piece and I’m happy to have it hanging on my flight bag.

The tags are always awesome as usual, I am dissatisfied however, with the continued delivery of damaged/bent backing cards.
