Leading the way, with TWA
“Leading the way, with TWA”, went the catchy commercial jingle that many still remember today. Trans World Airlines operated from 1930 to 2001 and truly did “lead the way” for decades as one of the top airlines in the world. TWA promised luxurious and fast flights anywhere on the globe. With the DC-9 they were able to bring the globe to smaller-sized airports that lacked the infrastructure needed for larger jets.
Our aircraft was delivered to Ozark Air Lines in February 1968, adding to their DC-9 fleet. The TV commercials proclaiming that “Go Getters, Go Ozark”, accompanied continued fleet and route growth. During the 1980’s, Ozark and TWA owned over 80% of the passenger services at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, making it a major hub. Ozark then merged with TWA in 1986, and N976Z was one of 50 planes added to the TWA fleet. 76Z was ultimately withdrawn from use in May 2000 and stored at Mojave Air & Space Port until MotoArt recovered it in 2021.
OUR PLANE'S STORY
N976Z was painted in TWA’s iconic Twin Stripe livery, with easy-to-read red block lettering. The lower stripes and the tail rhombus of the Ozark logo were adapted to the new TWA paint scheme. The livery was highly discernible, seen clearly in the clouds, and within many commercials, movies and TV shows. This timeless logo still stirs the memories of those who grew up fascinated with airplanes and air travel during TWA’s reign of the skies.
Our newest TWA DC-9 PlaneTags will transport you back to the pinnacle of TWA’s legacy, with its distinctive shades of red and white. These are a must for your collection - a small piece of a Douglas DC-9 from an airline with such an inconceivable history.
