Custom Curtiss P-40 Warhawk

Description

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighter/ground-attack aircraft was one of WW II’s most famous  fighters. The P-40 was easier to build and maintain than the other USAFF fighters at the time, and was in large-scale production such that nearly 14,000 were built by 1944, making it one of the most produced American fighters. It remained on the frontline until the war’s end. Known for its fierce “shark mouth” nose art and its versatility, it was used by most Allied countries. The famous Flying Tigers flew the P-40s in the Pacific theater and achieved notable success defending China and attacking Japan, helping to turn the tide for the Allies.

41-13297, which comprises most of the material used in the PlaneTag, survived a wheels-up landing and Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. It later crashed during a patrol mission over Oahu and remained there until it was rediscovered in 1985. It is currently being restored. Additional material was provided by Pima Air & Space Museum , taken from re-skinning P-40 wings during restorations.

Pima Air Museum restores numerous aircraft and have been collecting P-40 material for decades. In conjunction with the Pima Air Museum, and other restoration projects, MotoArt is using original skin material from several aircraft to bring you these exclusive P-40 PlaneTags. As such, this skin material cannot be specifically matched to which aircraft it was taken.

Handmade Aviation Tags

PlaneTags are:

  • Authentic - made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal.
  • Unique -  each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
  • Collectible - each one is numbered in a limited edition and comes attached to a display card. Collect them all!
  • Versatile - comes with a durable metal ring, strong enough to attach to luggage or keys or display

Thankful you offered a P40 WARHAWK

This plane tag by far is my favorite. I had a great uncle go missing during a mission from Port Morsby, Papa New Guinea. He was flying the same planes on a intercept mission, from Japanese Zero’s. Plane tags find some of the most interesting airplanes to ever grace the sky’s. I hope that plane tags uncover more WWII airplanes and offer tags, these planes are getting harder and harder to find. As a former Army officer for 24 years, having a piece of aviation history from the greatest generation is more than words can say!
