OUR PLANE'S STORY
Accepted by the U.S. Air Force in 1954, 53-3191 served first with the 317th Troop Carrier Wing in Germany, and moved between key bases in Europe, including RAF Burtonwood, Neubiberg Air Base, and Évreux-Fauville Air Base. After years of service, ‘3191 transitioned to the Air Force Reserve at General William B. Mitchell in Wisconsin. In 1967, it was sent to the AMARG in Tucson, Arizona, where it awaited its fate.
In 2022, MotoArt acquired the original fuselage of 53-3191. They overcame challenges like rattlesnakes and the Arizona heat to preserve the skins before the aircraft was scrapped for good. In early 2023, some of the fuselage was upcycled into our mobile airshow display (many of you have seen). The remaining portions were transformed into PlaneTags in 2024, preserving the aircraft's legacy for airshow and PlaneTags enthusiasts alike.

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
