PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This Boeing B-17G was built at the Douglas Long Beach plant in California for delivery to the USAAF in February 1945. #44-83387 did not see combat duty, but instead spent most of its career on display and being used by 20th Century Fox for the silver screen - starring with Gregory Peck in 12 O'Clock High, as well as Tora! Tora! Tora!, and other movie and television productions.  This B-17 spent almost 30 years on display at the State Armory in Greeley, Colorado before moving on to the California High Heritage Foundation for museum quality restoration.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

    Fantastic

As someone who loves vintage aircraft, this B-17 tag is a must-have. Mine was speckled with a variety of greens and silvers. One of my all-time favorites for sure.

    Awesome piece of history!

I purchased this tag for my dad a few years back and as the tags sold out I regretted not buying one for myself. Randomly this tags were back in stock and I hurridly purchased one and could not be more happy. Owning a piece of aviation history that you can hold in your hand is pretty awesome. Granted the plane did not see action in WWII but it was used in the Hollywood great, "12 O'Clock High," which is just more history to behold. If these tags were ever for sale again, I would buy more. They are just too cool to pass up. Own a piece of history today!

    Significant plane

I was happy to be able get this tag for its historical significance (I am not a "tag collector", but a history collector. To start, having flown on a B-17G, I was happy that this was that model. Moreover, its significance in the filming "Twelve O'Clock High"makes it extra special. The negatives on this tag are minor: 1) the tag has a bit of oxidation, making it hard to read (I appreciate "patina",but...) 2) this USAAF insiginia on the card is incorrect for when this plane was in service. This special tag is my only exception to my other tag collection, as I many collect Cold War items (B-52, B-1, B-36).

    Really Amazing, However...

Really love the idea of owning such an amazing piece of history, however felt it worth sharing some perspective for others. I bought this with the true intention of actually using it as a keychain, and what I received is visually amazing. Unfortunately the piece I received is so paper thin, it is effectively unusable for anything other than as an interesting display piece. It's amazing to think that material this thin was part of the structure of something so large - I guarantee it would crumple the first time I put it in my pocket, so I'm not going to be able to use it as an actual keychain. Yes the website does say they cannot guarantee color, thickness, etc, so this is not a complaint at all. Just pointing out that depending on your expectations of its intended use, it may or may not suit your needs.
