MotoArt is honored to add another historic aircraft to the Walter Soplata Collection - a Lockheed P2 Neptune that braved the extreme Antarctic conditions in support of Operation Deep Freeze.
The Lockheed P2 Neptune was a long-range, maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft developed for the US Navy. It first flew in 1945, and after that the sky was the limit. They were produced nonstop between 1946 to 1961 and went on to boast one of the longest unbroken production runs of a military aircraft ever.
140436, constructed as a P2V-7LP, was one of four built that were specifically designed with wheel/ski landing gear and JATO gear for Antarctic operations. Built in 1956, ‘436 would spend its entire career with the VX-6 in support of “Operation Deep Freeze” out of McMurdo Station, Antarctica. ‘436, nicknamed ‘Candid Camera’, was tasked with moving cargo, personnel, fuel, SAR and medevac missions throughout Antarctica. It was struck off charge in 1965 and returned to the states.
In 1971, Walter Soplata saved ‘436 from scrapping. Using a makeshift flatbed he made from an old school bus, he transported the Neptune back to his property in Newbury, OH. ‘436 remained on the Soplata property for nearly 50 years until, in 2019, the MotoArt team carefully excised the Neptune and other planes from the overgrown greenery that held them for decades. The cockpit has been preserved in the Mojave desert with the hopes it will perhaps go to a museum one day. Sections of the original skin are now preserved as PlaneTags.
Don’t miss your chance to add genuine Lockheed P2 PlaneTags to your own collection. This special edition Soplata Collection PlaneTag is the perfect memento for a loved one in the Navy or pilot gift. Get yours today.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

Very happy with my purchase of the P2V-7LP Planetags. This is the precursor to the P3C Orion I flew on during my Navy years. Very happy with the product and service.
I received a pure white, Snow White tag with a frost like effect. Looks great in the right light. The history of the aircraft is great, and the tag design and back art is amazing.
I got an orange tag that looked extremely weathered from the harsh Antarctic environment. The ruggedness adds a lot of character to this tag. Wouldn't believe it has been to the ends of earth if it looked brand new
I bought this tag for my daughter. She loves PlaneTags, and fell in love with this tag when she saw that the P2V Neptune had been to Antarctica. What a cool tag. Thanks, PlaneTags!!!
Such a fascinating history of this aircraft. It's a pleasure to have this in my collection. Looks great hanging on the wall with other Plane Tags in my collection.
This tag has incredible history! What a unique mission set this plane accomplished and such a great opportunity to own a piece of it!
Ordered an orange tag and got a beautiful tag with several shades of orange.
The history of this aircraft is really interesting, the Frost Bite Blue looks really nice and can be highly recommended! Very happy having bought this variety of amazing aviation history, Thank you!
Great history on these tags! The weathering is really present on these tags and that makes them so much better! Great quality once again!
The orange tag I received barely had any orange unfortunately which was disappointing. However, still a very cool aircraft to have a piece of, with a fascinating story!
One of the coolest (no pun intended) tags you can buy at the moment with some unique history. 1 of a handful of these built specifically for A cold weather missions.
I built my first Neptune model back in.. well a long time ago. My father flew them for over 10 years and loved them. This was my FIRST MA tag #0222 I bought one for me and one for my little brother. That was two years and 415 tags ago. This plane was part of Operation Deep freeze one of four ever built. If you are ever lucky enough to get a tour of the boneyard you will see the entire front half of this plane in Dave's yard. The Dayglo orange is one of the brightest of all colors on any tag and very hard to find so if you want a great tag good hunting.
I had been eyeing the "frost bite" color but I am so glad that I got the deep Neptune blue, it's so deep and subtle. I decided to pick this one up after enduring some rough patches - here is a plane that went to one of the most inhospitable places on Earth and made life just a little more bearable for the people working there. It's a great reminder to endure the hardships and that there's always time and place and reason to be of service to others.
Chose the "Snow White" variant for my very first Neptune tag. So much character and patina...cold just looking at it! Wish I had been collecting when this was released.
I love my new PlaneTag of P2V-7LP Neptune 140436. I feel lucky to have a piece of the aircraft type that my dad served on as a crewman, and especially one with such an illustrious story. I will be making other Plane Tag purchases. Great product!
Amazing customer service and support. I am extremely satisfied with the product! Will definitely be keeping a look out for new tags!
Absolutely loved the craftsmanship ❤️
