OUR PLANE'S STORY
The TBM-3E Avenger is a legendary single-engine torpedo bomber developed during World War II for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Its enduring legacy stems from its pivotal role in maritime warfare, reconnaissance, and search-and-rescue missions. Its rugged construction, combat capabilities, and historical significance have earned it a revered place in aviation history.
BuNo 91436 was delivered to the U.S. Navy on August 3, 1945, serving as a training aircraft at NAS Atlanta, NAS San Diego, and NAS Seattle. After being retired in 1956, it transitioned into a civilian career, fighting wildfires and assisting in agricultural spraying. Following years of restoration efforts led by notable aviation restorer Charlie Cartledge, the aircraft returned to flight and is now based at the Liberty Aviation Museum in Ohio, actively flown by the Lake Erie Warbirds team.

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
