OUR PLANE'S STORY
Originally built for Eastern Air Lines, this DC-3 never took to the skies under their banner. Instead, it was drafted into service with the USAAF as S/N 43-2013 during World War II. By 1949, it found its way to Delta, where it became an integral part of the airline’s expanding fleet, flying passengers and cargo for nearly a decade. In 1957, it moved on to North Central Airlines and later passed through multiple owners. In 1979, while privately owned, it was involved in a minor incident. Eventually, it was donated to the Museum of Flight, where it was repainted in a fictional Alaska Airlines livery as NC91008. After years on display at KBFI, it was removed and sold—until MotoArt acquired its original wings in 2024.
The DC-3 was the aircraft that helped Delta soar to new heights, transforming it from a regional carrier into a global powerhouse. Its legacy is woven into the fabric of modern aviation, and its impact is still felt today.
Now, you can hold a tangible piece of history. The limited-edition Delta DC-3 PlaneTags, handcrafted from the original skin of NC15748, offer an exclusive connection to Delta’s centennial milestone. Secure yours before they’re gone—because history this legendary doesn’t last forever.

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
