OUR PLANE'S STORY

44-34156, built in Long Beach, California as an A-26B model, was delivered to the USAAF in 1945. By 1947, it had been retired from active duty and reassigned to the Air National Guard, where it was transformed into a TB-26B. In May 1957, it was decommissioned and sent to AMARG at Davis-Monthan AFB. After being sold as surplus, it exchanged hands multiple times and was ultimately involved in a crash during a forced landing in 1985 while en route to the U.S. Air Force Museum in Fargo, North Dakota.

44-34156 eventually landed in Southern California, with rumors that it was used in the movie industry. It caught the eye of MotoArt PlaneTags owner Dave Hall, who had been looking for a Douglas A-26 Invader. The team was elated to preserve the legacy of the TB-26B, a trainer version of the A-26 Invader, which had been specifically modified by removing combat equipment and adding dual controls to facilitate pilot instruction.
