One of our most requested aircraft has arrived and it is as amazing as you can imagine. MotoArt, with the help of airplane collector Dan Bissell, bring you BuNo 148369 - a McDonnell F-4B Phantom II!

The F-4 Phantom is a twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber. It was highly adaptable and used extensively in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War as the principal air superiority fighter for the U.S. Navy, Air Force, and Marines. It had a top speed of over Mach 2.2 and set several world records for its performance and speed. It was the backbone of American military air power throughout the 1980’s, eventually being replaced by newer aircraft and phased out by 1996. Between 1958 and 1981, 5,195 F-4s were built, setting a long standing record for the largest production run of a U.S. built supersonic fighter. The Phantom II was used by 11 other nations and still remains in service today.

BuNo 148369 was built as a block 6 F4H-1 Phantom and delivered to the U.S. Marines in May 1961. Redesignated as an F-4B, ‘8369 would be assigned to numerous squadrons during its career including the VMFAT-101, VX-4, and H&MS-13 where it was deployed to Chu Lai Air Base, Vietnam. ‘8369 was struck off charge in 1974 after 1,644 total hours. It was used as a ground trainer and with the USN Fire School, before ending up in private collection.  Read more about it on the PlaneTags blog: F-4 Phantom: An Enduring Frontline Fighter

      • Authentic - made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal.
      • Unique -  each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
      • Collectible - each one is numbered in a limited edition and comes attached to a display card.
      • Versatile - comes with a durable metal ring, strong enough to attach to luggage or keys or display.

Love the variations on this tag. The jet intake, danger and Rescue ones are all stunning! These are such great tags, and some are super thick too!

MCDONNELL F-4B PHANTOM II #1,059 of 3,500 BuNo 148369 The Phantom ll was the one aircraft that made you feel safe and superior. Robust, fast and lethal. I got my tag EXTERIOR GREY and I regret not to get the INTAKE TAN instead. Nevertheless the somewhat thin tag is very smooth/clean, with the distinctive silhouette of the formidable aircraft. This tag comes from a Vietnam (USMC) veteran aircraft and deserves the due respect and care.

    A Favorite

The F-4 has always been a favorite plane for me. I got the Marines & Tail, Jet Intake & Danger, and Star & Bars variants...and they are definitely three outstanding tags! The colors, patina, and history causes them to be among my favorite military releases. And I carry them frequently on my backpack!

    Double ****, Not So ****!

The F-4 Phantom has been an all-time favorite of mine. The intake tan was my first Plane Tag purchase and will be a tag I'll always cherish. The quality and varients MotoArt was able to provide from this phenomenal bird sets it apart from the rest of the plane tags. While some variants are hard to come by, there is just something about holding this tag that makes you appreciate and respect the F-4 all the more. If all I ever did was collect F-4s from plane tags, I'd be a very satisfied customer!

    Another piece of history.

Absolutely love the feel and thickness of my intake piece, feels nice and weighty when I take my keys out, but more importantly the history, one of the coolest, sleekest planes flown in the 80's, I'm happy I got to sit in a few before they were gone from the marines when I was a kid.

I ordered this back when the tag dropped in 2022 and went with the "MARINES" selection. What came was a stunning tag with either a decent section of the "M" or "N" mixed with the grey of the body of the Phantom. It now hangs in my office and brings a wow factor to anyone that visits me.

    Plane tag

I was shocked at how thin the piece is. I was not expecting that I could bend it in half. Was hoping it was thicker

    High quality

I knew going in that the tags are all high quality but when I received it I was actually surprised how nice it felt in the hand. The edges are very well smoothed, and the laser etching is sharp and looks great. I will definitely be buying more tags in the future from different aircraft.

    Love it!

As a Veteran who served with Navy and Marine aircraft units and a lifelong military aviation enthusiast, owning a piece of a historic aircraft has always been a personal dream of mine. When I saw that I could own a piece of a Marine F-4 Phantom, I jumped at the chance. I know these are designed to be functional items, but as far as I'm concerned, this (and the other tags in my collection) is a historic artifact which I proudly display at home and intend to pass on to my son as a family heirloom someday. Thanks for making owning a piece of aviation history possible!

    F-4 Phantom II

I was so enthused over these tags that I bought five variants. During the Summer-hire program at Hahn Airbase in '72, my job as a Junior Highschooler was to wash the F-4s belonging to the 50th Tactical Fighter Wing. I quickly learned that it was not the same as washing a car! My, they were huge planes. So, though I wasn't a pilot, I did get some "hands-on" experience. Thanks to Planetags, I get the hands-on experience 50 years down the road. Truly great tags!
