Wielded by the newly reorganized United States Army Air Forces during the bulk of World War II , the P-47 was effective in both the European and Pacific theaters as a short- to medium-range escort fighter in air-to-air combat and ground attack. Determined to outperform the relentless Luftwaffe fighters, 15,636 Thunderbolts were produced . De signed to carry eight .50-caliber machine guns – and later adding five-inch rockets or a bomb load of 2,500 pounds – made the Thunderbolt one of the heavyweights of the war weighing in at 8 tons. By late 1943 the P-47 was USAAF's primary fighter-bomber, also serving with Allied air forces in France, the UK, and the Soviet Union .
Having been restored and preserved, this vintage P-47 remains an airworthy example of one of the main USAAF fighters of World War II. The restoration of our P-47, Serial #42-25068, meant we could get our hands on material to produce a limited number of PlaneTags from this Thunderbolt. Accepted by the USAAF in September 1943, our P-47 served as a training aircraft for both the Air Force and Aero Industries Technical Institute. Spending time in the limelight with The Fighter Collection in Duxford, UK as well as Comanche Warbirds of Houston, TX, this P-47 was also featured on the big screen in the films Fighter Attack and The Monuments Men. You too can own a piece of aviation history.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

I had received my tags and opened the package 3 min ago.It is more beautiful than I thought.I purchased three of them.and two of the three are combo colors.P47 is a historic type.Combo colors make the tags more beautiful.By the way, I have 18tags since today. I am very happy for that!
I just added this tag to my modest collection. The P-47 Thunderbolt was a legendary WWII fighter so to be able to own a piece of the fuselage of a "Jug" is pretty cool. These tags look great on my carry-on luggage, backpack, and briefcase and sometimes serve as a conversation starter in the TSA line. Obviously this tag is going to be durable if it was able to survive the Luftwaffe. A rare opportunity to own a piece of history.
It is always something very special when you can purchase a memento of one of the best WWII fighters. My only comment would be that, even though Curtis may have built this P-47, it is a Republic P-47 and that name should have put on the plane tag, not ‘Curtis’.
Awesome tag! It’s great to own a piece of a historic aircraft. The detail that PlaneTags put into engraving each tag and the cardboard back they use is nothing short of spectacular! Thanks PlaneTags!
