It doesn’t seem impossible that Clay Lacy is one of the top three pilots in the world logging the most flying hours, not when you consider he piloted his first aircraft at the age of 12 and earned a flight instructor rating by 16. Between his career as a United Airlines pilot with 41½ years of incident-free flying and time spent in the California Air National Guard, Clay has managed to fully immerse himself in the business of innovation – even revolutionizing air-to-air cinematography with his Astrovision camera system which was used in Top Gun, Armageddon, Con Air and many more blockbusters.
A philanthropist holding 29 world speed records, multiple inductions into aviation halls of fame, as well as innumerable awards and honors of flight and even writing, Clay Lacy has been called the “flyingest man in the whole world”, renowned as one of the most versatile pilots in the history of powered flight.
Despite all the anticipated havoc of the Y2K “millennium bug”, it should come as no surprise that an aviation legend and industry pioneer like Clay Lacy would be raring to rush headlong into the unknown, even as the rest of the world tentatively celebrated with bated breath. Determined to be the first to greet the year 2000 and finally see what all the fuss was about, Clay flew 40 guests in this Boeing 727 toward the most speculated new year in memory. Flying from California to Hawaii, and then on to Midway Island, Clay guided his plane across the International Date Line just in time to greet the very first moments of January 1st, 2000, with all aboard triumphantly soaring into the future before all others around the globe. Clay then landed on Midway Island, celebrating the end of 1999 and ensuring he and his passengers were also the last people to ring in the New Year again.
In celebration of the living legend Clay Lacy and his spirit of adventure, you can own a piece of Y2K history with a commemorative PlaneTag cut from the fuselage of this monumental “Midway 2000” plane.
What do Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. Kirk Douglas, Cary Grant, Shirley MacLaine, Mia Farrow, Johnny Carson, and John Travolta all have in common? They are among the many celebrities flown by Clay Lacy. In 1964, Clay flew the first private jet into Van Nuys Airport to offer demonstration flights to the Hollywood celebrity set, leading him to fly "just about everyone in Hollywood". Forever changing the standard of private travel for celebrities, executives, politicians and more, there is hardly a piece of the modern aviation world Clay Lacy hasn't transformed with his vision.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

I love how this aircraft was the first into the newest millennium, along with it being one of the few 727-100s to be preserved as planetags!
The first 727 tag I bought! Very clean engraving and very high-quality product. Could not be happier!
A classic 727 owned by Clay Lacy who flew this across the date line between 1999-2000 for a unique passenger experience! One of the more unique tags out there.
This is another one I almost didn't buy, but I'm glad I did. The tag itself has an interesting crackle pattern - the paint didn't stand the rest of time quite as well as others - but the engraving is just as crisp and clean. I tend to carry it around New Year's and when a big change is coming along - just as Lacy flew out to catch the first glimmer of the new millennium, it's a fantastic reminder to embrace what the future holds in store. Actively chase it down, if need be.
Fascinated by the plane's history "Midway 2000" it's cool to have now in my collection
Beautiful Tag! Another piece of aviation history at home :).
I have a soft spot for this B727-100 as I was flight engineer on this aircraft for many years under Clay Lacy Aviation. As F/E on many of the trips mentioned, Rock Band U2 for their North American ELEVATION concert tour 2001, Y2K MIDWAY 2000 international date line, the CIA and Operated many gambling junkets for the high rollers of the casinos. Flew many celebrities, Paris Hilton, Patrick Swayze, legendary aviator Bob Hoover just to name a few. I also was the mechanic on this great bird and enjoyed every minute of it. The cockpit section was cut off and now sits in a aviation museum in Palm Springs, California.
Great tag! I had to buy a few of these tags as I flew Flight Engineer on this B727 for years. I was F/E on the Y2K trip to the international date line, flew the U2 rock band on their North American ELEVATION 2001concert tour. Flew gambling junkets for the casino high rollers, CIA trips, Celebrities, Paris Hilton, Patrick Swayze, aviation legend Bob Hoover and others. I also was the mechanic on this aircraft and enjoyed every minute of it.
Very nice piece, well crafted. I'm happy!
Very nice tag, clean and crisp detail. Wonderful tag to a wonderful aircraft!
Sometimes the impression on white tags is difficult to see. But this tag has a clear and distinct print. Thanks!
This was a Christmas gift for my Grandfather, whos a former Boeing Engineer for many projects. I liked this tag so much I plan to buy one for myself as well!
Love this Plane Tag as I was the Flight Engineer for this historical flight into the year 2000. This flight more than likely put the crew and passengers aboard N724CL in a unique category as being the first people into the year 2000. It was a fun and exciting to be apart of this and thank you MotoArt for saving a little piece of my history.
Especially meaningful for anyone who flew out of VNY in the 80's and remembers this 727 towering on the ramp.
Excellent purchase
