Celebrating the Queen of the Skies from the Land Down Under

Joining a dynasty of Qantas 747s in the late 80s, the Boeing 747-400 was a game-changer for Qantas, setting the world record for the longest-ever non-stop flight in 1989 and earning the nickname “Longreach”.

OUR PLANE'S STORY

This Spirit of Australia 747-438, nicknamed “City of Dubbo”, took its first flight in October 1991, and later joined the Qantas fleet in November. Tail number VH-OJN was withdrawn from service December 30, 2011 after having flown 94,727 hours with 11,492 cycles – exclusively with Qantas. At one point Qantas was the world’s only all-Boeing 747 operator, having operated 747s since 1971. The last Qantas 747 flight landed in Sydney on March 29, 2020.

Possibly the world’s most iconic jet, the grounding of the Qantas fleet of Boeing 747s ends five decades of the jumbos connecting cultures around the globe. With no formal retirement ceremony planned due to the global disruption of the novel coronavirus pandemic, PlaneTags is proud to celebrate the Queen of the Skies final flight with a special edition memento. See how this and all our PlaneTags are handcrafted below.

    Handmade Aviation Tags

    PlaneTags are:

    • Authentic - made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal.
    • Unique -  each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags.
    • Collectible - each one is numbered in a limited edition and comes attached to a display card.
    • Versatile - comes with a durable metal ring, strong enough to attach to luggage or keys or display.

    - Please Note: Due to limited quantities, combination colors you may receive will vary.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully

      History to Treasure Forever!

Thank you to Dave and the team for creating such a fantastic collection of tags for such a historic aircraft! I will always treasure my little pieces of the Queen Of The Skies, which served Australia so well for close to 50 years in various forms. This particular set of tags is very well constructed with clear engraving and a set of colours that are really vibrant. The polishing and care taken in the making of these tags is clearly evident when you get your hands on one. Hopefully the first of many Qantas tags! Thank you for a perfect product and fantastic customer service.

      Piece of History

Very happy with receiving a piece of Australian Aviation History. Quality of product pleasing, together with presentation. The fact the backing card also reflects the history of the tag and is therefore specific to the product rather than a generic card adds value to the product. Awaiting further product from the VH-OJN range and perhaps other Qantas product in the future given the 'bring forward' dates of retirement. Thanks for a good quality product

      An old friend

Flew on it as a passenger, some of my friends and colleagues operated it, saw it many many times in Sydney. To own a small part of it is a great thing and it's all thanks to Dave and crew and Plane Tags.

      Great memento!

Having worked for QF for almost 20 years, I spent many hours onboard this aircraft. Great to have a piece of history as all the 747 fleet is retired. Product arrived sooner than expected.

      Never arrived, poor service

My tag never arrived, tracking states it departed the airport (Here) over 10 days ago, and when I contacted customer service they said “you can contact customs”.

      Still waiting....

I am sure I will love my tags when I receive them. It is a month since my order and all.i know is it had left LAX. Considering the cost of shipping, and even with Covid delays, it is frustrating it is taking so long to arrive.

      ‘Meh’

Delivery was on the slow side with minimal to no shipping updates - even considering covid and other ordering experiences. It is on the pricey side so they will probably lack a lot of repeat buyers. And would be an interesting profit margin to understand or if profits could be donated to charity. Are the planes scrapped or bought? Be interesting to know. Is a unique present so will wait and see how the recipient likes it.
