Description

Continuing with Delta’s legacy of aircraft and aviation history, MotoArt celebrates the incredible TriStar. Introducing the Delta Air Lines Lockheed L-1011-1 TriStar PlaneTags, created from N786DL.

The first delivery of the Lockheed L-1011 took place in April 1972; Delta Air Lines received their first TriStar in October 1973. From then until the last Delta TriStar took its final flight in 2001, the airline would fly 70 of the wide-body tri-jet airliners and employ the largest L-1011 fleet in the commercial aviation industry. Delta was the only major airline to fly with the L-1011-1, -100, -200, -250, and -500 variants. The L-1011 was equipped with new technology such as an advanced navigation system that linked with the automatic landing system and autopilot, as well as the CAT-IIIB Autoland system that could perform a landing automatically, even in bad weather. Further, the TriStar offered better fuel efficiency in the midst of a fuel crisis during the 1970’s.

OUR PLANE'S STORY

Our L-1011-1 first took flight in August 1975 and was delivered as N332EA to Eastern Air Lines in November 1975. In December 1991, it was registered as N786DL and delivered to Delta, where it remained in service until 1999. It, along with Delta’s massive L-1011 fleet (up to 56 TriStars in use at one time), serviced routes between 79 domestic and international cities, including Delta's first transatlantic and transpacific destinations. As part of Delta’s Wide Ride Fleet, the L-1011 offered roomy cabins, comfortable seating, and a quieter, smoother ride.

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.
