The early retirement of Delta’s trusty Mad Dogs ended an era, but the memory of these iconic aircraft will live on! MotoArt has created lasting mementos from the original skin of N982DL, and allowed it to be preserved long after the remaining MD-88s are gone. Add the McDonnell Douglas MD-88 PlaneTag to your collection today and join us in honoring the storied Mad Dogs!
Additionally, for each PlaneTag purchased a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Delta Care Fund. The Delta Care Fund was established in 2007, and operates completely on employee contributions. The Fund’s goal is to help current employees, retirees, and their survivors in the event of financial hardship, catastrophic events, or assistance for continuing education at an accredited college or university.
On June 2, 2020, Delta’s tireless Mad Dog departed on its final scheduled revenue flight. DL88 took off from IAD at 8:41 a.m. and landed in ATL at 9:56 a.m., marking the end of 33 years of service for the MD-88s. Between 1987 and 2020, Delta operated a total of 120 MD-88s. MotoArt is honored to celebrate the legacy of this workhorse, and welcome the famed Mad Dog into the PlaneTags Encyclopedia of Aviation History.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-88 is a twin-engine, single-aisle airliner derived from the DC-9-55. It featured an Electronic Flight Information System (EFIS) instead of the traditional analog cockpit. Delta Air Lines was the largest operator of the MD-88 and used it for short to medium routes across its domestic network. N982DL joined the Delta fleet June 22, 1991 and flew exclusively with Delta until being retired and stored June 30, 2019 at Arkansas International Airport, Blytheville, Arkansas. PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

As a MD88/90 pilot for 8 years was sad to see it go. Actually flew the tail that my bag tag came from - great piece of nostalgia and generates happy memories!
As I close in on finishing my 31st year at Delta Air Lines, I had to have one of these tags. The MD88 was my first Captain position at Delta. During my 7 years on the 88, I've logged 14.7 hrs on this particular airframe. And against all odds, It was the last 88 I flew before going to the 737. This tags means a lot to me!
Awesome. I flew this exact plane at Delta so sad to see it cut up in pieces but glad to have a piece of it to remember.
This was the perfect gift for my pilot husband!! He flew the MD-88 til they retired them all and it was his first plane at Delta!! Thanks for such a unique gift!
These tags are the bomb! I have purchased several and they are first quality. Now then, when are we going to get Mars Rover tags?
