PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Originally intended as a transport plane for WWII, the DC-6 rolled off the assembly lines in 1946 after being re-worked for the long-range commercial transport market. It flew as one of American Airlines’ famed Flagship planes, as an air tanker fighting fires, and most notably as The Monkees tour plane during the Summer of Love. Cut and engraved directly from the skin of a historic Douglas DC-6 decommissioned airplane, this limited edition, one-of-a-kind Plane Tag has been resurrected from its time in the clouds to live on as a versatile and practical memento. Over 100 years after humankind’s mechanical marvels conquered the skies, you too can hold a token of the immense feat of aviation in the palm of your hand.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully

PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

    Awesome DC-6

I really love the old propliners and with the DC-6 being so neat to tie back to the golden era of flight. I only wish more chances for old aircraft pop up like this gem!

    Air Tanker 68

This legendary aircraft has quite the history. From being the aircraft that The Monkees, & Jimi Hendrix tour during there Summer of Love 1967 tour, to it’s heroic efforts of stopping Forrest/Wild/Brush Fires around the United States. It was a sad day in aviation history when this aircraft was broken up for scrap, but Dave and his team came to the rescue to salvage some great color combos from this legendary aircraft. I even saw what was left of the tail in Mojave last year!

As a Monkees fan and an aviation lover, this is so cool

This came in a swift manner and the retro orange made my day. As a fan of all things '60s, this is a great one to have.

    DC-6 PlaneTag Tail# N90739 | Monkees DC6 Summer of Love Tour Plane

Limited Edition RETIRED #1034 of 2,500 [RED TAG] Tail #N90739 A nice clean tag of a plane that has a stories, with American Airlines [Flagship Georgia] then years later with the Monkees and its duty as a firefighter. But for me the DC-6 brings another story, back in 1982 in the Orient side of Ecuador. A bumpy [lots of turbulence] TAME DC-6 trip from CUE-GYE where my mom was not just extremely nervous but, her screams/shouts, making other passengers pretty uneasy as well. Her louds "!!!Dios mio, se va a caer!!!" and " ahh mierda, que esta pasando!!??" got the other passengers and flight attendants more nervous than the very bumpy flight itself. Eventually one of the flight attendants gave her a shot of liquor and "pill" to calm her down. Yes the plane was bouncing at a mercy of the weather as The pick of the mountains were a bit too close for comfort. This was near near/leaving the bordering the Amazonia region in Ecuador An hour later, as we are deplaning in Guayaquil, I had to help my mom down the stairs, as I was avoiding the other passengers stares. Eventually my mom looks at me with a big smile and said, see, they gave me a free drink!!! I was pretty mad, she was always a character wherever we went. This tag is a nice way to remember one of our many trip

    Brought back memories

My father, brother, and I were flying in our Cessna 182 from Washington D.C. to Laredo, Texas in the summer of 1967 when we landed in Meridian, MS. before pushing on to Texas. On the ramp next to us was the Monkees DC-6. along with five B-17s that were in Mississippi to eradicate fire ants. I was most impressed with the B-17s but accepted an invitation to tour the DC-6. The interior of the plane was decorated with G-rated posters and filled with stuffed animals which I thought was pretty tame for the rocking 60's. The B-17s are gone I am sure, as well as my father and most of the band, but I am sure the offspring of the fire ants are alive and well despite the aerial spraying by the Flying Fortresses. While flying home our plane suffered a vacuum pump failure in marginal weather resulting in the loss of critical instrument. My father, a hardened WWII P-47 pilot didn't see this as an issue as we continued scud-running from East Texas to New Orleans for repairs. Who needs instruments? My tag reminds me of that adventure.

    DC-6 Red

A very nice tag to commemorate my first transatlantic flight in February, 1959. It was a miserable flight on a US Air Force charter from Rhein-Main Airbase to McGuire Air Force Base. We had to make two emergency landings and the flight took 24 hours, total. Furthermore, the heating on board malfunctioned and the flight attendants handed out blankets. Memorable flight!

    DC-6

A very nice tag. My first and only flight with this aircraft type was with a charter DC-6 out of Rhein-Main Air Base to McGuire A.F.B. in Feb. 1959. Still a child but I still remember No. 2 engine leaking oil and two emergency landings, plus, the heating on board did not work. A very memorable flight that took us 24 hours to get over the Atlantic. Thanks to Planetags for letting me remember this remarkablel aircraft!

I’m biased! This aircraft is my all time fave! Can’t get enough of them. The grey tag is stunning and not drab in the least. Grab one before they disappear for good!

    The Monkees tour plane

How cool that this tag is from The Monkees' Summer Of Love tour plane. Bonus that Jimi Hendrix and The Buffalo Springfield traveled on this plane as well. It would have been fab if they could have engraved the Monkees guitar logo on the tags.

    Wonderful but...

I bought this for my mum because she loved The Monkees, so I’m a little disappointed that there is no indication anywhere on the tag or packaging about its tour flights. Of course it is still an extremely cool memento - it’d just be cooler if it came with a copy of its biography.

    Hey, hey, it's great!

Amazing at being able to hold this piece of history in my hand! You did a fabulous job and provide great service! Coincidentally, I even very recently heard a reference to The Monkees in The Queen's Gambit mini-series (some things old are in deed new again). Thanks again!

Excellent, I didn’t give a monkeys about the Monkees, I just wanted a little piece of one of my favourite aeroplanes. It is superb. Thank you. Regards, Jim.

Love the tag! It’s a gorgeous tag. Chose an “ordinary” colour and received a fabulous faded green/yellow. Well worth buying this piece of history. This DC6 lives on!

Another great planetag. I find it interesting to compare the differences in the metal from the older planes to the more recent vintage. Sure to get alot of comments from anyone who sees them.

Have some plane tags and given a bunch away.

The plane tags are great souvenirs. I got this one because I ran into the Monkees in a San Francisco hotel during this tour. The tag is a great reminder of that era.
