The Gates Learjet 24, a world-renowned business jet with exceptional speed, range and versatility, garnered attention not only in executive travel, but also in the realm of scientific research. With its sleek design and powerful engines, the Learjet 24 provided NASA with a platform to conduct a wide range of atmospheric studies, Earth observations, and technological development, making it a valuable asset in their quest for scientific exploration. Introducing N805NA, NASA’s Learjet Airborne Observatory aircraft.

Built in 1966 as a Learjet 24A, our plane was destined for science rather than corporate service. It was delivered as N705NA to NASA at Moffett Field in California and put into use as a groundbreaking airborne astronomy aircraft, using powerful 12” telescopes to study space from high altitudes. The Learjet Airborne Observatory led to the development of the Kuiper Airborne Observatory and the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), which have been used to perform research using infrared light, including studying atmospheric conditions on other planets, distant solar systems, and black holes.
In 1998, our plane was re-registered as N805NA and served as a flight research support aircraft at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center. Its career with NASA came to a halt on June 7, 2001 when it was damaged while performing touch-and-go landings. Although retired, its legacy as a notable aircraft in NASA’s fleet remains true today. In 2023, MotoArt brought N805NA out of the boneyard and created PlaneTags.
Celebrate N805NA and the contributions this aircraft made in uncovering the mysteries of space. Add Gates Learjet 24A PlaneTags to your collection today. Give one to your favorite space buff or Learjet enthusiast.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

Genuinely part with good finishing!
I really love the combinations from this jet. I love NASA history and love how many Tri-colors you can get from this airframe!
I can’t afford a real Lear jet, so this will have to do for the time being. A solid white, thick tag with a great design.
My daughter was looking for a gift for her college roommate who is studying Aerospace Engineering. She loved that this plane worked for NASA. It made a great gift!
It's a gorgeous combination between learjet. NASA and a tricolor variant tag.
Love these! Very reasonably priced tags for some great Tri-Colors! Couldn't be more pleased with this release!
Probably my favorite series of tags so far! Owning a piece of NASA and the projects these planes have taken apart of are quite amazing.
Another great NASA tag to add to the collection! The NASA ones always are super high quality and have so much history to them! Thanks Planetags!
Honestly you had me at NASA. Incredible planetag and is a must for my collection.
Have loved all things NASA since I was a kid and watched Apollo 11 land on the moon. This release and each tag are highlights for me...keep those NASA tags coming! All of the colors simply pop!
Amazing piece of NASA history with their aircraft’s! Extremely happy with what I got!
I love this tag - the LearJet is a very interesting little jet but I had to get this one for the NASA blue colouring. Really happy with the purchase
