In December 2022, the National Defense Authorization Act approved a long-sought-after request by the U.S. Air Force to begin retiring the A-10 Thunderbolt II, specifically approving the retirement of 21 A-10s in 2023. The A-10 has been in USAF service since 1977 and MotoArt is especially honored to introduce a Warthog into the PlaneTags fleet. Meet 77-0252, a Fairchild Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II.

77-0252 was constructed as an A-10A and delivered to the U.S. Air Force in 1978, first serving with the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing at RAF Bentwaters, Suffolk. The 81st Wing remained at Bentwaters for over 40 years, as a key part of NATO’s defense of Western Europe throughout the Cold War years. As they began phasing down their presence during the early 1980s, 77-0252 was transferred to the 176th Tactical Fighter Squadron, then to the 706th Tactical Fighter Squadron. The 706th TFS, the Cajuns, were called to active duty in December 1990 in support of Operation Desert Shield, with the first of its A-10s deploying to Saudi Arabia on January 1, 1991. After retirement, the front fuselage of this A-10 was displayed at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. MotoArt acquired the back half in 2022 from Andy Wade, of Wade Salvage in Atco, NJ. Wade has amassed an eclectic collection of aircraft and vehicles in his own personal boneyard and serves as Deputy Mayor of Waterford Township in New Jersey.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II was used in combat for the first time during the Gulf War. It was designed to provide close air support (CAS) of friendly ground troops, and also served as forward air controllers, to direct other aircraft during close air support strikes to ensure that friendly troops are not harmed. The rugged A-10 is a single seat, twin turbofan, subsonic attack aircraft which was developed specifically for CAS. It was designed by the famed aeronautical engineer and aircraft designer Alexander Kartveli, who also developed its namesake, the P-47 Thunderbolt. The A-10 was armed with a 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger seven barrel Gatling style auto cannon that delivered its armor-piercing rounds at a high rate of fire. The A-10 was notably used in the Gulf War, Grenada, and Afghanistan. As of December 2022, there are 281 currently in service.

*Important Notice – Please Read Carefully
PlaneTags are made from actual retired aircraft fuselage, not merely stamped metal. Because PlaneTags are made from real fuselage, each PlaneTag bears the color, thickness, and wear and tear from the portion of the fuselage from which it was cut and it is therefore rare to create two identical PlaneTags. These variations and imperfections are not product flaws. They are part of the beauty of PlaneTags. As a result, you will not have an option to select the color of your PlaneTag. The images on this website are provided for reference only and should not be used as the sole basis for choosing a particular PlaneTag.

My professor once told me that the A10 was built around the gun, which is insane! I love the camo greens that came off of this and love how important that aircraft is to military history.
My tag is part of the A10 Roundell. It appears to be from the bars. Wish I could've had one of the tags from the star portion but no complaints here! Definitely a treasured tag
Another iconic airframe I was happy to add to my military collection.
Love these tags! Spend many hours watching them to touch-and-goes down at Davis Monthan with my son. What a great opportunity to get this bird and make some great tags from it!
Unfortunately I just got a gray variant on release day, but I love the crisp paint on it.
Love these tags!!! Such an amazing opportunity and some very awesome tags from this release! engravings are super clean and great quality!
Interesting textured paint, and an iconic aircraft of course. The price is perhaps a touch high, but it's still a nice tag.
A-10A THUNDERBOLT II #2,408 of 5,000 SN 77-0252 BRRRRRRRRRRRRTBREAUTIFUL!!!!! TAG indeed, I was lucky to get one dark camo green that it's very smooth. I have never been seated, nor bombed or BRRRRRRRted by one. If you don't like this tag you should get a good BRRRRRRRRRRRRT BRRRRRRRRRRRRT BRRRRRRRRRRRRT BRRRRRRRRRRRRT BRRRRRRRRRRRRT by one, period.
How could you pass up owning a part of a warthog! This planetag is one I show off often as it is such an iconic aircraft, as well as having an iconic sound!
Fantastic tag/variant! Can't look at it or pick it up with hearing (and making) that iconic sound - Brrrrtt!
I had bought this tag as a gift to my brother-in-law some time ago and decided I wanted one for myself almost a year later. I was pleasantly surprised when the one I got was from the same plane that I gave my brother-in-law. Next time I see him we will re-unite the pieces.
I bought this for my brother-in-law who loves this plane, his absolute favorite, as a gift for him becoming a new father. He loved it. 10/10. Best gift I've ever given.
First bought this tag at the Reno Airshow as we were just getting into tag collecting. We liked it so much we had to buy more. Gave one to my husband's uncle who's also a big A-10 fan. He was super excited to get it.
Love it! Having a chance to get a piece of a warthog is crazy!!!! Keep up the great product's!
This bad boy is thic! You can appreciate how this machine can survive anti-aircraft rounds and still fly back to base in one piece just by feeling the weight of the tag! This cold war era warrior is truly a mantle-piece!
I was sad to have missed out on the clinical grey we all know and love on the A10 however the camo green was surprisingly good when she arrived. Very happy
I am so glad to get the A-10A Thunderbolt ll added to my collection.
The tag arrived within a reasonable time here in Belgium and it is in perfect shape. The tag exceeds my expectations i had for it. A well made product.
This is a great novelty. It's a very thick genuine skin. In comparison to other plane materials I've known this is a thick chunk of aluminum. It goes on my keys and makes them very easy to find.
I never leave home without it. Whether I’m going to class or flying my plane, I always make sure I have it clipped on somewhere. I absolutely love the design as well. The little scratches and chips really make it feel authentic. I have 1,893 out of 5,000 tags and it truly feels like a collector’s piece. 10/10 must have for any aviation enthusiasts.
